Of the 25,000 households in the 40 sq mile city limits of RH, 48% of the households are paying more than 30% of their income for housing cost + utilities, and are out of financial balance. Almost 20% of the households are paying more than 50% of their income for housing – being just one financial glitch away from losing their housing and becoming homeless. The report shows the great news of 1 and 2 bedroom units and says that the main cause of the lack of affordable housing if local city zoning which prohibits such housing to be built or which increases the cost of such housing so it is not affordable to folks of moderate and lower incomes.
